Fencing rules

Source: Jiangsu Mingjian sporting goods Co., Ltd

Before the Sydney Games, the Fencing Federation announced to the outside world that the fencing competition will begin to use wireless frequency detectors to calculate the number of effective hits, so as to replace the popular electronic instruments for half a century.

Fencing is a double competition. In the competition, one side stabs the opponent with the sword tip to make the sword tip stab in the effective part accurately and have the nature of stabbing in. After that, the party with more effective clicks will win. According to the rules, the round robin hits five times in four minutes and the knockout hits fifteen times in nine minutes. The one who hits the opponent for an effective number of times or hits the opponent more times after the time is up will win. In team competition, the team that hits the opponent 45 times first wins.

There are three weapons in fencing: Epee, foil and sabre. The effective hitting points and competition rules of the three weapons are also different, so each weapon has its competitive characteristics. In contrast, foil is more sporty and faster to wear, while Epee requires more skill and accuracy.

  1. Preparation

The competition is held on a 1.5 to 1.8 meter wide and 14 meter long kendo. When the referee announced the preparations for the game, the players of both sides were in an emergency position two meters away from the center line. Players should stand on their sides, pointing their swords at their opponents and leaning their hands behind their backs. Every time an athlete gets a point, he has to return to this position and compete again.

2. Score

Hitting with Epee, foil and saber is to stab the opponent with the sword tip, so that the sword tip can stab the effective part clearly and accurately, and has the nature of stabbing. A hit that reaches any part of the opponent's body is a tangible, physical and substantive hit. In order to make it an effective hit and score, the landing point must be within the effective position specified by the relevant sword type.

Epee is a piercing weapon. Only the sword point hit is valid, and the sword body cross attack is invalid. The effective parts to hit include the whole body, i.e. trunk, legs, feet, hands and arms, and helmet. Unlike foil and sabre, epee is effective every time it hits. If both sides hit each other within a quarter, each side will get one hit. The easily hit part is the hand. Therefore, epee competition needs a high degree of accuracy. A good opportunity to attack the other party is often when the other party starts to attack. The two players' sword tips are equipped with red and green light detectors respectively. When a hit occurs, the sword tip will produce a strong light.

Foil is a kind of piercing weapon. It is effective only when the sword is stabbed, and the cross attack of the sword pole is invalid. The effective hit area is the upper body. The effective part of the hit is covered by a metal coat, so that the electronic instrument can distinguish between effective and ineffective hits. Foil competition also pays attention to hit priority. Those who attack first and hit first score. The attacker must first make an effective resist action before entering the attack. Both sides hit at the same time without scoring. In this case, it is difficult to distinguish the strike priority. For example, sometimes the sword touches the arm, which is an invalid part in the foil.

A sword is a weapon that cuts and stabs. In actual combat, it is more important to score in splitting. The effective parts to hit are the upper body, helmet and arm. The effective part of the hit is covered by a metal coat, so that the electronic instrument can distinguish between effective and ineffective hits. Sabre competition also pays attention to the priority of hitting. Those who attack first and hit first score. The assailant must make a decision first

It is only effective when you enter the attack after effectively resisting the action. Both sides hit at the same time without scoring. Sabre is fast and often takes a short time.

If the electronic instrument shows that a player scores, the referee will immediately stop the game and continue the game after both players are ready.

3. Draw

In nine minutes, if the two sides are divided equally, an extra minute will be played, using the sudden death method. In order to prevent both sides from over defending, draw lots before the overtime to decide who will win if neither side scores in the overtime.

4. Team competition

In team competition, each player competes with the other three players in turn. The player who gets 5 points first wins, and then the players cross the competition. The team who gets 45 points first wins.

5. Fouls and penalties

After the game is restarted, the game generally starts from the same place (except for the loss of venue). The penalty for losing the field is generally to move the scene of the game one meter to the offending group. If both legs touch the bottom line, the player will be punished with a sword.

If you make the same mistake again after warning, you will also be punished with a sword. Like the sprint and collision in the sabre, intentional physical contact in the foil and pushing the opponent in the Epee also belong to intentional physical contact. Will be punished with a sword.

It is a foul to turn back to the opponent, illegally drag and stab the sword tip on the field, or cover it with an unarmed sword hand to avoid being hit. Give a yellow card warning for the first time. If you make a mistake again, you will show a red card and be hit by the other party. For those more serious fouls, such as revenge, rough collision and collusion with opponents, they will be expelled with a black card.
